Expansion of honing machine to accommodate workpieces up to ten meters long offers significant advantages for large-cylinder production
Roth Hydraulics has significantly expanded its capabilities in the field of internal machining of piston accumulators. Thanks to extensive modifications to an existing honing machine, the company can now internally machine cylinder tubes up to ten meters long and with a diameter of up to 560 millimeters. “This strengthens our vertical integration, improves quality assurance, and simultaneously increases production efficiency,” says Managing Director Frank Fuchs.
Previously, the maximum workpiece length was five meters. With the new machine configuration, Roth Hydraulics has doubled this capacity—a clear benefit for customers in the large-cylinder manufacturing sector and for special applications.
Key Quality Feature Remains In-House
The honing of internal surfaces is one of the decisive quality features in the manufacture of piston accumulators. It significantly influences the functionality, service life, and sealing performance of the piston accumulators. With the expanded machine, Roth Hydraulics ensures that this sensitive process step can be carried out entirely in-house—independently, with quality assurance, and flexibly.
Greater efficiency, shorter turnaround times, sustainable process
Another advantage: The honing work previously performed externally resulted in long turnaround times and increased transportation costs. By performing the machining in-house, Roth Hydraulics now significantly shortens turnaround times—while simultaneously reducing logistical expenses. This conserves resources and contributes to the company’s sustainability goals.
Modern control technology for maximum precision
The upgraded honing machine is equipped with modern control technology that automatically detects shape deviations such as constrictions and adjusts the process accordingly. This ensures a uniform, high-precision internal surface—even with complex requirements.
Roth Hydraulics continues to operate a second honing machine at the site, which can be used in parallel.
Final inspection by experienced specialists
Even after machining, quality standards remain high: The final inspection is performed by trained specialists using specialized measuring equipment, taking component temperature into account—for absolute precision and reliable results.
